For many years now, the Black Bear Men’s Chorus has honored us with participation in our First Sunday of December worship service. Those “in the know” get there early and listen to the rehearsal. As time for worship nears, the Sanctuary gradually fills up. By 10 am, the ushers run out of printed programs, make more and take them down the aisles, handing them out to the later arrivals. And the great music begins.
The chorus skillfully fills the sanctuary with song. This year selections ranged from “Down in the River to Pray” to “Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth” and a call and response of “Alilo” between the large chorus and Ursa Minor, a small chorus within the larger one.
They concluded with ‘”Twelve Days After Christmas” and a standing ovation. The BBMC really starts our Christmas season off right.
After enjoying fellowship and goodies, the BBMC were on their way to the Annual Yuletide Concert at the Collins Center for the Arts on the University of Maine campus. Many of us delight in the chance to hear them again and follow.
We are already looking forward to hearing them again next year and have penciled in on our calendars. You might want to do the same; if you enjoy male singing voices, you’ll be glad you did.
