People who serve on the Outreach Committee are committed to supporting those who have basic unmet needs. There is much camaraderie and fellowship in the activities that we work on together! Currently, 12 members are serving on this active committee, but we welcome additional members.
On the first Saturday of each month, our Free Bean Luncheon offers a hearty meal to people in the greater Bangor area. Attendance at these luncheons ranges between 40 and 60 guests. In addition to a great meal, we provide a bag lunch “to go”. Non-committee volunteers are welcomed, as it takes 12-18 people to help with the meal, set-up, and clean-up. Others help by providing live music during the meal or information on area services, such as Literacy Volunteers and Caring Connections. During the cold season, warm coats, sweatshirts, and sweaters donated by the congregation are distributed at the luncheon.
The Outreach Committee also prepares and serves dinner for 45 people at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter on the 4th Monday of each month. The residents there are always so appreciative. Our Committee also collects and distributes warm socks to clients of the shelter.
Our annual community service project has been to work at the Hampden Good Shepherd Food Bank assisting food distribution or organizing donated food. The volunteers who worked at Good Shepherd found it fun and productive!
