We support the needs of the community in several ways each year.  Each May we hold an Indoor Yard Sale where people can buy good used clothing (coats to shoes) for $1 to $5, stockings, belts, and so on may be as little as a quarter.  While they are shopping, they can take advantage of all the china, vases, coffee mugs, pots and pans, and pillows and bedding for matching prices.

Starting in October and continuing through the winter, we distribute coats, sweaters, mufflers, and hats–some new, some old–at the Free Bean Luncheon (first Saturday of every month).  Diners may select one of each item every month.

Also during October, plastic totes are placed in the back on both sides of the Sanctuary to collect toiletries.  Donations can range from full-sized shampoo and conditioners to unopened bottles from hotel stays.  Toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, dental floss, deodorants, and so on are then distributed through various charities.

At Christmas, a Winter Warmth Tree takes its place in the Narthex.  Members of the congregation hang new socks, hats, mufflers, packaged underwear on the tree or under it.  All the items collected are distributed through the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter and Shaw House, a shelter for homeless teenagers.
