Note: Although housed and supported by HSCC at 28 High Street, Bangor, the Ecumenical Food Cupboard is an independent unit serving Bangor Area Residents Only.  Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 am to NOON with the exception of certain holidays and school snow days.  If the Bangor Schools are closed due to inclement weather, the food cupboard is closed.  For further information or if you would like to volunteer, please call:  207-942-4381 during operation hours or email:  ecufoodcupboard@gmail.com.

The Bangor Ecumenical Food Cupboard, supported by seven local churches and housed at Hammond Street Congregational Church has been serving the hungry citizens of our city since 1975.  We are grateful for the love and support that comes from this community and to the other churches and organizations which have supported the Food Cupboard over the years.

There are three ways to donate to the Food Cupboard:  food, money, and volunteering.

  • Food— We especially appreciate canned soup, pasta sauces, tuna or hamburger helper, canned fruit, peanut butter, cereals, powdered milk, crackers, small sizes of ketchup, relish, cooking oil, and so on.  If you enjoy eating it, so will others and appreciate your thoughtfulness in donating.  Please do not give goods with expired dates.
  • Money— Any donation is welcome.  Every dollar that we receive can buy up to six pounds of food, that translates into about eight meals.  Occasionally a matching grant occurs for the purchase of cloth bags or other items to help run the Food Cupboard and we encourage participating in those events.
  • Volunteering—Volunteers may work with our clients at the window or bag food for them. A commitment may be as little as once a month or as often as once a week.  Those with basic computer skills, willing to learn our computer program, and commit to working at least once a week, can register our clients for each day’s visit.

We welcome your help and thank you for your continued generosity.
